Educational Coach for UCI Math CEO
The UCI Community Educational Outreach Program Math CEO (www.math.uci.edu/~mathceo) provides free afterschool math enrichment sessions for Latinx youths; UCI students act as mentors and facilitators of math activities. The Math CEO leadership team at UC Irvine seeks a motivated, dependable, and resourceful UCI student who can assist the leadership team in the coaching of UCI college students on inclusive, culturally-relevant math pedagogy, so they can be effective mentors for Math CEO. Communication skills must be strong; a background in education and a strong interest in teaching are also required. Knowledge or experience with Latinx culture is preferred. Reporting directly to the Math CEO Directors, the Educational Coach for UCI Math CEO will perform administrative duties such as ● Run observations of college mentors during Math CEO sessions with youth; ● Provide assistance to the mentors during the Math CEO sessions, if needed; ● Run debriefing sessions for college mentors after the Math CEO sessions, to prove feedback; ● Set up “check-in” meetings for mentors, for individualized feedback as needed; ● Create coaching materials for mentors, such as videos or tip-sheets. The Educational Coach for Math CEO is a current UCI student who is open and willing to learn the skills required to run an educational community outreach program in a university setting. Verbal and written communication skills must be strong. Strong candidates are dependable, responsible, and creative problem-solvers, who have an outgoing and friendly personality, have a strong background in pedagogy, and are passionate about serving the community. This position requires working on site on campus (on Mondays and Wednesdays 1:50 to 3:50 PM); additional tasks may be performed remotely, for a total commitment of 4-8 hours a week. The Math CEO leadership team at UC Irvine seeks a motivated, organized, resourceful, and detail-oriented multi-tasker to provide administrative support to the program. Reporting directly to the Math CEO Directors, the Meeting Coordinator for Math CEO will assist the Directors with logistics associated to hosting weekly afterschool math enrichment activities for underserved youth, such as: ● Oversee the organization and implementation of the Math CEO afterschool meetings ● Monitor youth-mentor interactions during the Math CEO meetings ● Set up classrooms for group afterschool activities ● Welcome youths to the Math CEO meetings and accompany them from their bus drop-off point at UCI to the designated classroom ● Assemble manipulatives for math activities, and distribute them during the meetings ● Make copies of educational material, and distribute them during the meetings ● Select snacks for participating youths, and distribute them during the meetings The Meeting Coordinator for Math CEO is required to be a UCI Undergraduate Student who is open and willing to learn the skills required to run an educational community outreach program in a university setting. Strong candidates are dependable, responsible, and detail-oriented, who have an outgoing and friendly personality, enjoy working with youth and are interested in outreach and in serving the community. This position requires working on site on campus (on Mondays 1:45 to 4:15 PM and Wednesdays 1:30 to 4:30 PM), or on zoom (on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-5:00). Additional tasks may be performed remotely, for a total commitment of 4-8 hours a week. Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis. The Math CEO leadership team at UC Irvine seeks a motivated, dependable, and resourceful student ambassador who can help Math CEO create and maintain positive connections between the program and the local Latinx community, through thoughtful, meaningful, and culturally appropriate communications. Verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish must be strong; familiarity with Latinx culture is preferred. Reporting directly to the Math CEO Directors, the Math CEO Ambassador to the Latinx Community will perform administrative duties such as ● Initiate and maintain close positive, respectful, and welcoming connections between the Math CEO program and Latinx families (e.g., through newsletters and social media posts); ● Initiate and maintain close relationships between the Math CEO program and its partnering middle schools (e.g., through emails and meetings with teachers); ● Create videos, flyers and other informational material to advertise the program and recruit middle school participants; ● Participate in community events with parents and teachers (e.g., workshops to inform parents of middle school students about college opportunity); ● Translate documents into Spanish (e.g., surveys and other communication to parents) ● Chaperone Latinx families during their visit to UCI, to help them overcome language barriers. The Math CEO Ambassador to the Latinx Community is required to be a UCI Undergraduate Student, who is interested in outreach to the Latinx community. The successful candidate: o is passionate about promoting educational outcomes for underserved Latinx youth; o is an articulate and an effective communicator; o enjoys or has previous experience in public speaking or public communications; o is skilled in developing flyers, videos and other informational materials; o has ability to plan, organize and implement activities and events; o possesses a good understanding of the local Latinx community; o is dependable, responsible, creative and ready to take initiative. This position requires working on site on campus (on Wednesdays 1:30 to 4:30 PM), or on zoom (on Thursdays 3:30-5:00).
