The candidate will be under the direction of the Course Director (Dr. Sheba George - cc’ed on this email) and Co-Director, the Pre-clerkship Curriculum Coordinator (PCC) will have the exciting and unique opportunity to help develop and implement an innovative longitudinal course. Medicine and Society is a critically vital component of the new Charles Drew University College of Medicine curriculum equipping novice medical students with the tools and basic abilities to appraise the role of the physician in healthcare in the context of modern US Society. Leadership, advocacy, and health policy are areas of focus for this course. Topics of discussion will include Social Determinants of Health such as Poverty, Environmental Justice, Health Disparities, End of Life Care, Institutional Racism, Homelessness, Substance Use Disorders, Stigma against Mental Illness and Disability. The PCC will help support all aspects of the development and implementation of this longitudinal course curriculum and facilitate coordination with faculty, students, and other staff. The candidate must be able to multi-task, with a strong focus on organization, have advanced writing skills and be able to balance the needs of various roles. Principal functions include curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and reporting.
