Earning the M.A. En Route to the Ph.D.All Ph.D. students have the option of receiving the M.A. degree in Education en route to the Ph.D. To qualify for the M.A., students must have a full pass for the Second Year Research Paper (SYRP) requirement and have completed all degree coursework, with a grade of B or better.
Earning the M.A. is a two-step process:
1. Advancement to Candidacy for the M.A. (Spring Quarter of Year 2) Interested students should contact Arielle Hinojosa-Garcia to initiate the M.A. Advancement to Candidacy paperwork via DocuSign. At the time of advancement, students must have completed or be near completion of all degree course requirements and have submitted their SYRP for review. Students should complete/review their degree checklist prior to initiating the advancement paperwork. All advancement paperwork is due to Graduate Division no later than Friday of Finals Week of the quarter. 2. Final Degree Paperwork (Fall Quarter of Year 3) The M.A. Final Degree paperwork will be initiated via DocuSign after degree course requirements have been fulfilled and students receive a full pass for their SYRP. Per campus policy, in order to confer the degree, Advancement to Candidacy paperwork must have been submitted no later than the quarter prior. All final degree paperwork is due to Graduate Division no later than Friday of Week 10 of the quarter. *Note: For students interested in a Summer M.A. degree conferral date, students will need to register for a one-unit course during summer session. |
