Appointments
How do i make an appointment to see an ADVISOR?
what is the difference between walk-in advising and an advance appointment?
Walk-in advising consists of brief 15 minute meetings that are facilitated by our Education peer academic advisors. Slots cannot be pre-scheduled- students must come in person and sign up for walk-in advising at the front desk. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-in advising is open to all UCI students regardless of major, and is great for academic planning, course selection assistance, graduation checks, and basic questions about field study and degree requirements.
Current Education Sciences students can make academic advising appointments with an academic counselor. These appointments are generally 30 minutes long and must be made at least 1 business day in advance. Same day academic advising appointments are not available. Appointments with an academic counselor are great for questions regarding academic probation, study abroad, part-time enrollment, withdrawal/readmission, or discussing more complicated issues related to academic progress and graduation.

Probation
what does it mean to be on probation?
If your quarterly GPA, your overall GPA, or your Education GPA fall below 2.0, you will be placed on academic probation. Students who have not completed their entry-level or lower-division writing requirements, or are not making normal unit progress, will also be placed on academic probation. If you have been placed on academic probation for any of these reasons, you will be required to meet with an academic counselor and sign a contract with terms detailing how you may return to good academic standing (GPA above 2.0, appropriate unit progress, or completion of writing requirements).
what does it mean to be subject to disqualification?
If your quarterly GPA falls below 2.0 for two consecutive quarters, or below 1.5 for one quarter, you are subject to disqualification from the Education Sciences major and UCI. i violated my contract, now what?
If you fail to meet the terms of your academic probation contract, you will be placed on a subject to disqualification contract for a second quarter and required to meet with your academic counselor. This will be your last chance to meet the terms of your contract and return to good academic standing before being disqualified from the major and the university.
If you fail to meet the terms of your subject to disqualification contract, you must submit a letter of appeal to the Office of Student Affairs that details the reasons for your performance and outlines a plan for you to return to good academic standing. This appeal letter will be reviewed by the Director of Student Affairs and the Associate Dean of Education. If you are planning to change to another major, or intend to withdraw from UCI, you do not need to submit an appeal letter.

Yes, students may transfer in coursework to UCI from community college in order to receive unit credit or for fulfilling specific degree requirements. Some things students should keep in mind when considering transferring coursework to UCI from a community college or other institution:
If you are considering transferring a course from another 4-year college, please consult with an academic advisor prior to enrolling in the course to confirm transfer eligibility.
- Students can use Assist.org to find out which courses are transferrable to UCI. It is the student's responsibility to know whether or not their courses will count for a UCI requirement, and if they are enrolling in a duplicate course at their community college. Duplicate courses do not count for units or for degree requirements.
- Community college coursework cannot be used to fulfill upper-division requirements.
- Once your community college courses are completed, you are responsible for ordering your official transcripts and having them sent to the UCI Office of Admissions.
- If you would like to double check any courses before you enroll, you may email us at: [email protected]
