Team KiPOW Volunteer Recruitment:
Team KiPOW is currently looking for enthusiastic individuals interested in health education and working with kids to help lead weekly health education sessions to 5th grade students at Heideman Elementary School in the Tustin Unified School District. If you would like to help teach 5th graders about the importance of nutrition and exercise, Team KiPOW would love to have you join the team! We are planning to begin our session during October, and we will be holding 20 sessions overall! The sessions will be on Wednesdays from 11:30-1pm at Heideman Elementary School. If you are interested, please read below to learn about this wonderful opportunity to help fight childhood obesity! Basics of Team KiPOW: Team KiPOW is a CHOC/UCI School of Medicine organization consisting of CHOC resident physicians, UC Irvine medical students, and local volunteers committed to fighting childhood obesity in Orange County! Team KiPOW visits OC elementary schools on a weekly basis to teach a health lesson to 5th grade students and eat lunch and exercise with them so that the students could mirror what the health mentors do. How you can join: 1) Submit a Team KiPOW Volunteer Application (https://forms.gle/4RZePeJB9uRAt2Aw5) 2) Submit the Volunteer Contract for 2022-2023. This will be sent to you after we have received your application. 3) Watch our online orientation video. 4) Sign up for KiPOW shifts! Don’t hesitate to submit any questions or concerns to [email protected]. Looking forward to having you join our team! Frequently Asked Questions: Do I have to commit to attending all 20 Team KiPOW sessions throughout the year? No! While we (and the 5th graders) appreciate seeing familiar faces each week, we have a GoogleDoc that allows you to sign up for sessions according to your availability. What is the application process for Team KiPOW? Since we are working with the Orange County Department of Education, all volunteers have to complete a background check. However, we simply need to know whether or not you have had one! If you already have obtained a background check in the past, for school or any form of volunteering/ activity, you do not need to get one again. Additionally, volunteers must complete the volunteer application (Team KiPOW Volunteer Application)! Who will I be working with? Team KiPOW members include UC Irvine medical students, pediatric residents, undergraduate students, and other community members interested in health education and working with kids! Team KiPOW is a great opportunity to network with local individuals in the healthcare field. What are some examples of Team KiPOW lessons? Lesson topics cover a wide range of health topics including “Healthy Snacks and Food Safety,” “Fruits and Vegetables,” and “Exercise and Blood Pressure.” Link to Volunteer Sign Ups: https://forms.gle/wCfQ75iP31UgmXg86 Comments are closed.
